Protein is essential to help you stay full and satisfied during the day. Most Americans get plenty of protein in their diet but it is not always from the right sources. Pizza dinner’s post LAP-BAND surgery will NOT be a thing of the past. This Cauliflower Crust Pizza recipe uses LAP-BAND approved ingredients that will make dinners nights flavorful!
½ large shredded cauliflower
1 garlic clove, minced
½ teaspoon dried oregano
1 large egg
½ cup romano or parmesan cheese
½ cup marinara sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella
Crushed red pepper flakes
Preheat oven to 450°F. Line a pizza pan or rimless baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place cauliflower in a food processor and pulse until reduced to rice-size crumbles. Transfer to a large nonstick skillet and add 1 tablespoon oil. Heat over medium-high, stir frequently, until the cauliflower begins to soften slightly (but don’t let it brown), 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer to a large bowl to cool for at least 10 minutes.
Add egg, Romano cheese and oregano to the cooled cauliflower; mix until mixture can be pinched and will hold together. Spread the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, shaping into an even 10-inch round. Drizzle the remaining 1 teaspoon oil over the top, marinara sauce, and shredded mozzarella cheese (you may also add other toppings like peppers, mushrooms, etc.).
Bake the pizza for about 10 to 14 minutes, until nicely browned all over, 8 to 14 minutes more. Scatter basil over the top. Cut into wedges and serve.

Supervised Weight Loss is a pre-surgery insurance requirement for most patients planning to undergo bariatric surgery. LAP-BAND surgery brings a world of possibilities to your life. New clothes, more energy, increased self-confidence, better health, and physical intimacy. Whether you are starting to date someone new or reconnecting with your partner, the sex-talk after LAP-BAND surgery is one we have often. Just like any other topic related to your LAP-BAND surgery it is important to set realistic expectations.
Patients can start practicing intercourse as soon as they feel comfortable. Dr. McEwen’s outpatient LAP-BAND procedure is minimally invasive though still requires patient to go under anesthesia. Because of this, we advise waiting until you are fully recovered. Everyone is different, so this will depend on your body and adherence to guidelines.
Testing your Metabolic Rate will precisely assess how many calories you burn each day giving Dr. McEwen the perfect target for steady weight loss before or after your LAP-BAND surgery. Here are 5 reasons why this test will help us make your weight loss journey more successful.[…]
What is a Resting Metabolic Rate Test?

Diet and lifestyle changes can be intimidating. Whether you are brand new to the Lap-Band or have had one for years your diet is, and always will be, important to your success. Protein shakes can be a convenient and simple way to achieve your recommended 60 grams of protein each day. It is important to choose protein shakes or protein shake powder made with whey protein as this type of protein is a “complete protein” which means it has all 9 essential amino acids. To avoid burnout with the same protein shake try out some new recipes like the 5 listed below! You can even meal-prep the recipes by putting all ingredients (minus the milk) in individual baggies to be prepped and ready for your morning! […]

Will my LAP-BAND affect my marriage or other relationships? In a way, yes it will. First it starts with affecting you. You will change your personal relationship with food. You’ll look at eating differently and will modify habits that led you to an unhealthy weight or continued the cycle of unhealthy weight. During this personal change you might need support from those around you. You will need to be strong enough to say, “Sorry I prefer not to eat that… but I can eat this.” or “you know I love peanut butter m&m’s, but I am trying not to have them on a regular basis anymore, Can we avoid having them in the house?”
One of the biggest road blocks for those struggling with obesity, or anyone working on their weight, is fear. Fear of failure. Fear of disappointment. Fear of health issues. Fear of being judged by others, society, and a loved one. Fear of admitting your weight is a bigger issue to you than you’ve ever let on. Fear of having no other option and being stuck in this body that doesn’t feel like yours anymore. Fear of bariatric surgery.
We understand that fear. We understand that breaking out of comfortable but unhealthy cycle of habits can be hard. We know overcoming your fears will take time and dedication as well as commitment. We also know it takes a strong support system, and we understand that fear pushes everything aside and alienates us from anything or anyone that’s trying to help.
Fear is a huge factor that keeps potential patients from taking the first step in tackling their weight issues. How can Dr. McEwen and his team help with fear? Where do these fears come from? Why do potential LAP-BAND patients have these fears? Below are a few steps to take in overcoming your fears: […]
